Session Description

When studying history, many students do very little thinking. Instead, they do lots of "re-searching" of the answers - whether in their textbooks or on the internet - that others have found to historical questions. Few students have the tools to look at the past in a critically thoughtful way. Building on the work of Peter Sexias, Roland Case will illustrate how to embed historical thinking throughout the grades 5-8 social studies curriculum by introducing students to six kinds of problems raised by the study of history.
